We’ve all heard of 24-hour video contests, even 24-hour play writing, but thanks to IDGA Education Special Interest Group’s Global Game Jam technologies have advanced to the point where even something as complex as a video game can be produced in 48 hours. Aside from the implications of the specific process used in such ‘quick prototype’ contests on product/service design and our own charettes, I think it’s a powerful indicator that—soon enough—the masses will be designing and producing their own highly interactive content. How long before the small business owner can set up and customize an entire back-end system for a 30-person company out of a box in 4 hours, leaving SAP and Windows in the dust?
