Nice to meet you Helen Tong
A few sentences about me…
Hi, I’m Helen. I’m a first year MDes student who loves ID! If we had a cheerleading team, I would be team captain. ;)
Where are you from? Major, age, etc.
I grew up in Boston, but my heart lives in Denver (and now maybe Shanghai). I studied Human Factors at Tufts University because I loved Don Norman’s book “Design of Everyday Things”.
How did you end up at ID? Where were you before?
I worked in healthcare IT consulting before I came to ID. I worked with docs and nurses to build their electronic medical records system. It was a fascinating experience and now I know what things like, Q4H and BID means. I came to ID because I love people. I wanted to learn more about designing for the way we live, and I hope I’ll design things that make people smile. =)
Tell us quickly about a project that you’re working on now that you’re really excited about.
I just finished a project for Ubiquitous Computing with Anijo Mathew. We designed a mobile device to help illiterate adults learn how to read and write.
What do you do in your spare time?
I like taking pictures of random stuff. I love watching movies. I wish I had more spare time to read the stacks of design books and magazines piling up in my apt.
What would you do with 20 million dollars?
I would start my own brand and only design things to make people smile. =D I would give some to my mom and dad so they could retire. I would invest in people’s happiness.
What super-power would you most like to have, and why?
Hmm….I’d want invisible powers, so I could be a Super Duper Observer!
What are the websites you could not live without?
pandora.com, facebook.com, google.com (not very exciting, I know, but they are essential)
Is there anything you would like to say to ID?
Keep thinking of big ideas that make us all smile.
(ps. how do I pass the meat to someone else?)
